Your mobile phone is waiting for worms

We predict that viruses and worms that will attack mobile devices, wireless networks and pocket computers will become "epidemic" at the end of 2005.
The majority of mobile phone spam comes in the form of text messages (SMS) - the easiest way to deliver “malware” code into your mobile device.
Mobile devices (including pocket pc, cell phones) are the new frontier for viruses, spam and other potential security threats including adware.
Bluetooth and other wireless technologies that connect mobile devices pose new exposures for hackers to target their “software”. (Source: WinAntivirusPro)

Penn State University Radically Improves Facilities Management Using GiveMePower’s PowerCAD CE Mobility Software And Dell Handheld PCs

Adding to its growing list of satisfied customers, GiveMePower Corporation (OTCBB:GMPW), a provider of computer-aided design (CAD) and graphics development software for Windows® mobile, wireless and desktop computing, announced today that prestigious Penn State University has increased productivity, noted substantial time savings, reduced errors and improved collaboration in their facilities management group using the Company’s PowerCAD® CE mobile CAD and VoiceNOTE™ hands-free audio note keeping solution on Dell Axim® wireless handheld PCs.

Prior to PowerCAD® CE, Penn State’s facilities management group--who require as-built drawings for all of their facilities--recorded measurements using a pad of paper and a measuring tape. Next, they would take the sketches to their office to recreate them manually on a desktop PC using AutoCAD®. Searching for a more efficient method, Scott Hord, facilities analyst within the Facilities Resources & Planning department at Penn State, took a proactive approach by gathering a team to commence development of a mobile solution. Then he discovered PowerCAD® CE.

“PowerCAD CE is exactly what we have been looking for,” commented Hord. “We now manage our drawings directly from anywhere on campus. No more returning to the office with a stack of sketches to redraw in AutoCAD. We simply add or make changes as needed during building walk-throughs, save the file as an AutoCAD drawing on our Dell Axim handheld PCs and drag-and-drop them to our desktop computers back at the office.”

Hord noted they also have the ability to send and receive drawings through e-mail or by wireless web. And by using PowerCAD CE’s exclusive VoiceNOTE™ hands-free audio note keeping technology, Hord’s team saves hours of time by speaking directly into the handheld PC with detailed verbal information instantly embedded into the drawing and referenced to specific objects or locations.

Bill Walton, president and CEO of GiveMePower stated, “Again, we see our PowerCAD solutions making life easier for our users, saving time and adding immediate value to the bottom line. We are thrilled that Penn State University chose PowerCAD CE to improve the way they manage their facilities.”

PowerCAD® CE is part of GiveMePower’s complete family of CAD Anywhere™ 2D and 3D design, viewing and mobile/wireless collaboration solutions – each designed to save time and money in the office, in the field, or on the shop floor.  (Source: Press Release, Automation.com)

New Pocket LOOX 720 Aluminium-Lined Leather Cases and Magnesium Cases

Handmade to protect the Pocket LOOX 720, the Proporta Alu-Leather case provides the robust protection of aluminium encased in elegant black leather, giving the case both functionality and elegance.

Like all Proporta Alu-Leather Cases, the Pocket LOOX 720 case features the company’s unique ‘Screen Saver System’ – which offers hugely enhanced screen protection without adding bulk or weight by including aluminium sheets in the front of the case.  Along with a removable credit card module and removable belt clip (with post and clip system) the Alu-Leather Case for the Pocket LOOX 720 is versatile and adaptable.

Both the Flip Type and Book Type cases provide internal storage for two MMC/SD cards as well as access to device functions such as stylus port, stereo output, and synchronisation port.

Another feature of the Book Type Proporta Alu-Leather Case is the camera lens access which is provided by a permanent cutout.  If you would prefer the camera lens to be covered and protected all the time, the Flip Case is a better option – since it doesn’t have the lens cutaway.  With the Flip Case, pictures can be taken easily by flipping the case cover back to expose the camera lens.

Also incorporated in the case is a hidden magnetic attachment system which allows the case to dock securely with the Proporta Vehicle Docking Mount making it ideal for use with GPS systems.

Also coming soon to Proporta - injection moulded Magnesium Cases.  Made from magnesium alloy the case is only slightly heavier than an ABS plastic case but is more than twenty times as strong because of the incredible tensile strength of magnesium.

A double hinge a the front of the Magnesium Case allows the case to be fold flat through a full 360 degrees to give access to the touch screen without removing the device from the case.  As always, the case includes storage space for SD/MMC cards and a fully removable belt clip system.

You can now register all Proporta branded products for a Lifetime Warranty at www.proporta.com/lifetime.

As always, all Proporta purchases are covered by the company’s “never-argue” money-back guarantee.  If for any reason or no reason at all, you are not completely happy, Proporta will refund you in full or offer you a replacement – whichever you prefer. (Source: Press Release)

Phelios Releases A New Pocket PC Game: A Free Video Poker Game: UglyPoker

Phelios has published its second game for Pocket PC. The game is a free, video poker game called, "UglyPoker."

About UglyPoker

"UglyPoker is an ugly, straightforward video poker game for Pocket PC. Yes, "ugly" is subjective and some will find this game extremely ugly and some will find it not very ugly at all – Ugly or not, it's a video poker game for Pocket PC, it’s free and it contains no adware, malware or spyware. The only difference with UglyPoker compared to a typical Video Poker, (to which most people are accustomed), is in the face cards: they are slightly different in UglyPoker because in place of using the typical Ace, King, Queen and Jack, UglyPoker uses the Francophone version 1, R(oi), D(ame), and V(alet) respectively. This may look a bit unusual to some people, however, most players will find that it takes little time to become familiar with it.

UglyPoker is absolutely free, requires Pocket PC 2003 - ARM/XScale Processor and is available to download at: http://www.phelios.com/pocketpcgames/ (Source: Press Release)

Resco Releases Resco SmartGrid .NET

New powerful grid control containing advanced features designed specifically for mobile devices

Resco, a leading provider of advanced developer controls and tools, today announced availability of a new custom control to ease the development of Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC applications: Resco SmartGrid .NET, a powerful Grid control optimized for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Compact Framework.

When creating this control, Resco took account of the rapidly growing number of mobile application developers and lack of specific controls capable of efficient work in the environment of Windows Mobile-based devices that are small in screen size and have limited CPU performance. To increase performance, Resco integrated into the Resco SmartGrid .NET control several advanced graphical functions and the support of native mobile databases, allowing quick loading of data (the control automatically loads only the visible data).

“When developing mobile applications and enterprise solutions, we have noticed the need of a powerful Grid control, made specifically for the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework platform” says Pavol Zajac, product manager of Resco, Enterprise Solutions. “That is why we have designed the Resco SmartGrid control so that it can work with extensive data sources in real time even on mobile devices lacking performance.”

Another important property of the Resco SmartGrid .NET control is its support of XML templates. This state-of-the-art technology allows the developers to design and develop applications using the technique of separation of form design and functionality, allowing so development of applications intended for different Windows platforms.

”The ability to optimize applications for mobile devices with limited resources is vital for developers,” said Christopher Flores, group product manager for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. “The .NET Compact Framework was designed to provide developers with everything they need to build mobile applications and nothing they don’t. Microsoft is pleased to see Resco offer these valuable controls to the developer community.”

Pricing and Availability

Resco SmartGrid .NET control is now available. It is priced at $149.95 for standard edition and $299.95 for professional edition. Both editions include one year of support and upgrades. Free trial version is also available. For more information, please go to www.resco.net/developer/smartgrid/. (Source: Press Release)

Software On Sailboats Announces a Pocket PC, Sales Management Software Package for less than $30

Version 5 Targets Mobile Sales Professionals And Sales Teams In Small-To-Medium Sized Businesses

Some computer experts are still questioning the practicality of Pocket PCs as a real business application tool, but today, Software On Sailboats, an Austin based software company, announced a new version of their popular Pocket Sales Manager product which brings PC business power to the Pocket PC platform. Sales professionals and Sales Managers have struggled for a long time to find an affordable Pocket PC product that is simple-to-use on a daily basis, yet powerful enough to provide decision-making, sales-pipeline information. This fifth generation product, when combined with its big-brother Desktop Sales Manager, shatters existing price levels, allows large-company sales executives & small-to-medium sized businesses to track and manage their sales pipelines, and to report on their sales progress. The two Sales Manager programs are fully-integrated products that work on Pocket PCs and on Desktop/Laptop PCs, and built around Microsoft Outlook/Pocket Outlook.

Record Rate of Acceptance

“We have sold thousands of copies of our earlier releases, and are building upon the success and experience we have gained with sales professionals who have embraced these products and use them daily to track and manage their sales and to report their sales progress” said Rod Kimmel, partner at Software On Sailboats. "The ability to track a contract from the first call all the way through closure means that nothing ever falls through the cracks!  Ever!" stated Donald McDougall, Sales Vice President for Marshall & Stevens. “These products are 3 times more powerful than the competition, and 1/5th of the price. Right now I'm tracking $14 million in fee from 264 proposals, and no other tool meets our needs so well"

No other product for Sales Professionals combines the sophisticated features, revolutionary pricing and cross platform portability of this software offering.
