Sentry 2020 for Windows CE and Pocket PC version 2.8

"SoftWinter (http://www.softwinter.com) today announced release of Sentry 2020/CE version 2.8 for Windows CE and Pocket PC devices. The latest version adds support for new platforms based on Windows CE.NET 4.0, Windows CE.NET 4.1 and Windows CE.NET 4.2. Handheld devices based on the newest platforms are being rapidly adapted by the enterprise and such support allows SoftWinter to offer it's best selling enterprise mobile security tool with broadest compatibility on mobile platforms.

SoftWinter Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC is an enterprise security tool utilizing transparent encryption to protect important information stored on Pocket PC devices. It provides the most comprehensive system of security with flexible options for protection alternatives, and it offers a transparent user interface. The user can choose which files he or she wishes to encrypt, as well as which algorithm is used. Files are transparently encrypted and decrypted on the fly allowing highest level of security without further user interaction.

The Pocket PC version of Sentry 2020 will continue SoftWinter's mission of bringing better security to handheld devices, considered the least secured computer platform in most enterprises. The features that make PDAs so useful, such as their portability and ready access to critical data, also make them highly susceptible to loss and theft. In which case the actual cost of hardware replacement is negligible compared to the potential liability for compromised sensitive data.

Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC is almost completely transparent to the user. Through the use of decryption-on-demand and a host of usability features such as auto-dismount with an optional grace period, PDA users can continue to benefit from the speed and convenience of their devices while the enterprise is assured of maximal data security.

Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC is designed to work on all Windows CE platforms: HPC, HPC Pro, HPC 2000, Windows CE.NET 4.x, Palm size PC, Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2003. It will be priced at US$49.95. 30 days free evaluation is available at http://www.softwinter.com/download.html.

Ordering information is available by contacting [email protected] or from http://www.softwinter.com." (Source: Press Release)

Proporta Unveils Three New Cases, a 3-in-1 Stylus and Advanced Screen Protectors for the HP iPAQ rz17xx

"PDA accessories experts, proporta.com, have announced the release of an Aluminium Case and two new Alu-Leather (Aluminium-Lined Leather) cases (Flip Style and Book Style) as well as new Advanced Screen Protectors and 3-in-1 Stylus for the new HP iPAQ rz17xx and rx34/37xx devices.

Alu-Leather Cases

The Alu-Leather Cases feature the company’s tried-and-tested combination of an elegant, hand made leather exterior with the unique Proporta ‘Screen Saver System’ – a robust aluminium lining which maximises protection without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the case. Each case has been designed to precisely meet the requirements of the device it protects and there are the usual functional extras like MMC/SD card storage space, optional and removable belt clips, secure closure, removable credit card module and PDA grip system. The cases are also compatible with the Proporta in-vehicle magnetic docking system, so they are ideally suited for use with the company’s growing selection of in vehicle GPS navigation solutions (www.proporta.com/gps).

Aluminium Cases

Manufactured from anodised aircraft grade aluminium, this Proporta rz17xx case is the first of the company’s hard cases for the new iPAQ machines and will be followed ‘any minute now’ by an aluminium case for the iPAQ 43xx device. Like all Proporta aluminium cases, it features an impact absorbent neoprene lining to cushion the PDA from shocks. The outer aluminium shell has been precision moulded to perfectly fit the shape and size of the rz17xx while adding only a fraction to the weight. There are two SD/MMC storage slots and a secure PDA attachment system and closure catch.

Advanced Screen Protectors

Proporta have also introduced Advanced Screen Protectors (iPAQ 19xx shown in image) for the new rz17xx and hx47xx (soon to be made available for the rx34/37xx). Each Advanced Screen Protector includes an application card and a screen cleaning cloth, allowing the protector to be applied, removed, cleaned and reapplied as often as required. In the competitive screen protector market, Proporta are putting their ‘money where their mouth is’ by offering a refund or replacement to anyone who doesn’t agree that these are the best screen protectors on the market.

3-in-1 Stylus

Also for the rz17xx and hx47xx (and coming soon to the rx34/37xx), Proporta have launched a 3-in-1 Stylus, that incorporate a stylus, reset pin and ballpoint pen - all in one useful stylus that fits neatly into the silo of your iPAQ.

Proporta Award-Winning Customer Service

Like all Proporta branded products, the rz17xx aluminium case is backed by the company’s unrivalled customer service, including a full Lifetime Warranty and the Proporta ‘never argue’ guarantee (they will refund or replace any product if the customer is not happy ‘for any reason or no reason at all’). This guarantee is ideal if you’re buying a present for someone else as, with over 400 PDA accessories (including GPS navigation), Proporta is an ideal place to find exactly what you need. Socket Delivers Take-Anywhere, Go-Anywhere Portable Power Source for Users ‘on the Go’

"Light-Weight, Mobility Friendly Power Source Eliminates Need for Multiple Chargers for Electronic Devices While Extending Battery Run Times

Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), the Mobile Connection™ Company, today announced the Mobile Power Pack, a small and light-weight mobile charging source for users of portable electronic devices such as Pocket PCs, PalmOne devices, cell phones, Smartphones, BlackBerry’s, digital cameras, and MP3 players, as well as Socket products such as the Cordless GPS receiver, Cordless Modem, Cordless Serial Adapter, and Cordless Hand Scanner. By eliminating the need for multiple battery packs and extending battery life, the product gives mobile users the freedom to use their electronic devices anywhere, whether on a plane or camping.

“The Mobile Power Pack provides users with a powerful productivity solution that is Mobility Friendly™,” said Vanessa Lindsay, Product Marketing Manager at Socket. “Similar to a universal remote control for TVs, the product eliminates the need for multiple charging sources, one for each electronic device a user carries, and it’s extremely light and easy to carry. In addition, its extended battery life gives mobile users the freedom to go anywhere for long periods of time without having to worry about finding a power outlet. This allows mobile workers to be even more productive when ‘on the go’.” Socket’s Mobile Power Pack is a rechargeable Lithium ion battery pack with a capacity of 7,200 mAh and can extend the run time of an average Pocket PC up to 16 hours – even while operating with accessories and full backlight. The Power Pack is both small – dimensions are 4”x 3”x 1” – and light – it weighs only 11 ounces. It will charge or operate any compatible device that uses an input voltage of +5 volts DC. The Power Pack has the ability to charge most products that draw power from a USB port. It powers devices by simply plugging in a compatible connector to the Mobile Power Pack. Included with the product are a black soft leather case, a travel pouch, DC output cord, and AC adapter with four input plugs for use in the U.S., Europe, United Kingdom, and Australia.

Pricing and Availability

Socket’s Mobile Power Pack will be available during the first week of November 2004 through Socket’s website (www.socketcom.com) and through Socket’s worldwide distribution channels for an MSRP of U.S. $149 and expected street price of U.S. $119 — $129. " (Source: Press Release)

Hosted Exchange Server and the Mobile Professional

"PDAs and the Hosted Service

MailStreet also offers a couple of optional services that are reasonably priced that I use every day. If you're like me and use a Windows Mobile powered Pocket PC (there may be ways to use these with a Palm based device, too) then you may be interested in Outlook Web Access. This is a secure method to use almost any web browser on ANY computer, even computers that are not yours, to access your server just like using Outlook on your local computer. The Outlook experience is duplicated very faithfully allowing you to use "Outlook" on any computer, even public ones. No personal information is left behind on the foreign computer when you log out, making it not only convenient but very secure. I use this all the time on my Pocket PC and it's just like using Outlook in the palm of the hand. Very nice. I also set up the Pocket PC to synchronize directly with the Exchange Server so I don't need to synchronize the Pocket PC with any of the computers I use. All the PIM data is synchronized directly with the server via WiFi, eliminating the problem of having to synchronize with both the desktop computer and the laptop to make sure the Pocket PC is completely up to date." Security for handhelds

"These devices, because of the way they were introduced into many organizations, are not always included in the IT support and security planning. This can be a large mistake but is easily mitigated with the adoption of PDA security and appropriate user policies, requiring power on passwords, encrypting sensitive information and email, using VPN software when transmitting via WiFi and installing and using anti-virus software.

Organizations should manage PDAs with the same assertiveness they manage corporate desktop computers. It is an advantage for organizations to purchase PDA management software to help inventory devices, push software updates, enforce policies and configure the PDA during its synchronization sessions." "Finger-friendly software with stunning user interface adds effectivity to primary functions of Phone Edition PDAs, like contact look up, dialing, sending SMS, quick reminders, call logs. All these functions are now accessible at single tap of fingers without any need to use stylus.

Bratislava, Slovakia (PRWEB) October 10, 2004 -- Finger-friendly software with stunning user interface adds effectivity to primary functions of Phone Edition PDAs, like contact look up, dialing, sending SMS, quick reminders, call logs. .mobile makes all these functions accessible at single tap of fingers without any need to use stylus.

Walking or in the car, users have access to all important information and functions with no need of using stylus. This Pocket PC software also introduces a revolutionary way of scrolling: to drag the list with finger. It is possible to dial or send SMS directly from contact list at single click, to view the missed calls and other call logs. All important functions are accessible at single click and without having to use stylus.

"Our priority was to create a single-hand operable (finger-friendly) software with stunning user interface." said Michal Stencl, CEO of Sygic. "We combined entertaining features, like pictures from Digital Vision that can be assigned to contacts, and productivity features like call logs, businesscard preview, contact groups and quick contact reminder."

Users can also assign pictures to every contact. 50 beautiful images provided by Digitalvision are available in the package. Software also gives user advanced possibilities of contact list filtering. Another unique feature is a "quick reminder" - enabling to set a reminder in 2 taps of the finger. Without .mobile, this operation would take much longer. Software provided with Windows Mobile Phone Edition operating system provides detailed settings which are usually not neccessary.

Call logs and contacts accesible within single application makes .mobile a must-have tool for owners of Phone Edition devices. It is loaded with features, that make Pocket PC more like a cell phone - simple and usable.
